Construction is underway for our Howland House pro

Construction is underway for our Howland House project, a 1,800sf ground-up guest house and garage in Yarmouth, Maine. Housing garage space and a guest unit above, the new structure mimics the form of the existing house while utilizing a vernacular approach to barn design. Incorporating elements such as oversized openings help to differentiate the two buildings while remain cohesive.

Exciting milestones, such as framing, roof construction, and window installs are already complete and we look forward to seeing this project come to fruition! … #howlandhouse #aampstudio #cairnconstruction

Feeling very excited to have our Northside project

Feeling very excited to have our Northside project featured in today’s print edition of the Wall Street Journal!

Nestled amongst the trees in Bellevue, WA, this mid-century residence has been reimagined to reflect the unique style and needs of a young family. The home features expansive windows that seamlessly connect the interior to its natural surroundings. The ground floor, primary bedroom and basement family room were all reconfigured to improve circulation, increase space and allow for more natural light to shine deeper into the home. New finishes, fixtures and appliances were provided throughout all three levels.

The original structure presented a wonderful backdrop for the clients’ love of warm and luxurious hospitality spaces, some their own, which is reflected in AAmp’s choice of rich fabrics, colors, furniture and accessories throughout the residence.

At our Bessborough Residence, salvaged brick from a former on-site garage was thoughtfully integrated into the new addition, reducing waste and reinforcing the home’s architectural history. Pictured here is living room and kitchen space facing the rear yard. The interior fireplace is treated with @mutinaceramics Rombini tile and furnished by @houseofdigby.

This project tackles the challenge of seamlessly integrating a contemporary extension with an existing historic home, blending traditional and modern design elements through careful attention to form, materiality, and comfort. The primary design challenge was to add modern living spaces without disrupting the architectural integrity of the original structure or the surrounding residential neighborhood. Rather than contrasting with the historic home, the new extension mirrors its form, focusing on aligning height and aperture placements to ensure a harmonious relationship between the old and the new … #bessboroughresidence #aampstudio #salvagedbrick #mutinaceramics

On May 6th, Architalx concluded another outstandin

On May 6th, Architalx concluded another outstanding lecture season, sharing new insight and inspiration with the Portland design community and beyond. @architalx Board President and AAmp Principal, Andrew Ashey, had the honor of opening each lecture, introducing the non-profit organization dedicated to advancing architectural education and dialogue. This year’s series included talks from prominent architects, landscape architects and designers, including Jennifer Dempsey of Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects, Deborah Berke of Yale School of Architecture (@yalearchitecture) and TenBerke Architects (@tenberke_architects), Laura Stein of Bruce Mau Design (@brucemaudesign), and Ross Altheimer of TenxTen (@tenxtenstudio). Additionally this year's series offered a 5th bonus lecture from Moshe Safdie of Safdie Architects (@safdiearchitects), the architect behind iconic projects like Habitat 67 and the National Gallery of Canada. And, a very special thank you to the incredible Board of Directors for making this year happen! 🙌
