Beacon Residence

AAmp Studio transformed a historic 1890s home in Portland, Maine into a lush, plant-filled retreat that reflects the personal and creative lives of its owners. Guided by a light-touch approach, the renovation preserved the home’s original bones while making strategic updates, including a dark exterior repaint and the conversion of a former driveway into a vibrant garden patio.

A key design move was opening the renovated ground floor kitchen to the living space, integrating warm millwork, high-end appliances, and marble surfaces for a modern, earthy feel. The third floor, once neglected, was reimagined as a multifunctional office, guest suite, and media space during the pandemic. Interior updates focused on a neutral palette that emphasizes natural light, with subtle accents of color and personal objects layered in over time. Throughout the home, plants, vintage furniture, textiles, and a curated collection of records and barware create a tactile, lived-in environment. The result is a home that balances comfort, creativity, and connection—both to the landscape and to the couple who inhabit it.
