Hollywood Dell ADU
Hollywood Dell ADU is a 600 sf accessory dwelling unit sited in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles. The geometry and setbacks overlaid on this complex hillside site presented a unique opportunity to create a triangular plan form. Its rooftop deck takes advantage of the views while maximizing outdoor space on the small lot.
Conceived during the height of the pandemic, the ADU contains two workspaces and a small gym for the clients to use as a retreat from their primary residence. It can, however, be easily converted to a guest unit with a murphy bed in each office, small kitchenette and built-in banquette.
The primary residence is a 1920s Spanish style home, which informed many of the material and formal decisions on the ADU. Terracotta siding was selected to respond to the existing residence’s terracotta roof, while soft curves at each corner and round openings relate to the eased edges of the Spanish style vernacular.
